Interpret and Compare Data Displays (6)

Interpret and compare a range of data displays, including side-by-side column graphs for two categorical variables (ACMSP147)

LO: To interpret and compare simple column graphs

Know:

  • How to read a column graph
  • That the axis represent a set of data

Understand:

Do:

  • I can read column graphs

Reading Column Graphs

When reading graphs, always look at the axes to see what information the graph is about.

Also always look at the title of the graph to give you a clear idea of what the graph is about.

This is a side column graph.

Histograms vs Bar Graphs

There is a difference between a Bar Graph and a Histogram.

A bar graph is great for categorical data (if your collected data is in the form of words).

A histogram is better for numerical, continuous data (if your collected data is in the form of numbers).
