Numbers don’t necessarily have to always be whole. Some times you can have part whole numbers, which is why decimal numbers exist.

Whole number can be split into tenths and hundredths.

Tenths means whole pieces are split into 10 equal parts.

Hundredths means whole pieces are split into 100 equal parts.

In this case 4 pieces out of 10 is coloured in, therefore this is 4/10 or four-tenths.

In this case 22 pieces out of 100 is coloured in, therefore this is 22/100 or twenty-two hundreths.
